  • Statement from a Papiao.TV pirate - "Trust me, these letters are not a hoax."

    Received February 14, 2020

I am writing this statement to embarrassingly admit that I have made a mistake and to warn others that did the same to not ignore any correspondence you may receive from Nagrastar. Trust me, these letters are not a hoax.

I got into this years ago, unknowingly and very naive to the fact that what I was doing was very illegal. Ironically, I was working for another Satelite provider at the time. I finished an install one day where I was switching out a Dish Network service. A coworker told me not to throw away the old dish and that I could use it to watch Dish Network programming at a discounted cost. After giving me instructions, I ordered a box from an online store, purchased an "access code", and before I knew it, I had all the channels I could ever want. Over time, I ordered additional equipment and more and more codes to set up my 3 children with a box of their own, along with an additional box for our bedroom.

As most people who went through this know, things went south eventually and these online "support groups" slowly stopped providing support. I ended up with basically 5 door stops that I had no more use for. Eventually, the majority of them just got tossed and I went back to regular programming. That is why when I got my initial letter from Nagrastar, I almost immediately threw it away...just dismissing it as a hoax. Basically my wife is the one who questioned if it had anything to do with those "old boxes"...sure enough, it did.

I contacted Nagrastar (who were extremely nice about the whole deal, considering) and was able to take care of the situation right away. I know it's never easy to admit when you've done something wrong, but sometimes you just have to, and then make it right.

In closing..DO NOT IGNORE THE LETTER
